One of their finest songs, and Frida's lead is tremendous here. The official video tells the story in music and in visuals and I recommend it to you. Thanks for your reaction. 1977. 45 years ago. Abba often had uptempo music and sad lyrics, In fact I'd go as far as to say that there was pathos and melancholia in every track.

Good morning for you, and thank you for continuing to ABBA songs
"Knowing me knowing you" is on the album "Arrival" (1976) along with "Dancing Queen" and many other beautiful songs
"Knowing me knowing you" is ABBA's second biggest UK hit (only after Dancing Queen) with five weeks in #1
So different and beautiful both songs
That is the characteristic of ABBA, to be very versatile, avoid repetition and seek excellence and perfection in their melodies and vocal harmonies
while "Knowing me knowing you" was #1 in UK, in the same time "Dancing Queen" was #1 in US (April 1977)
The lyrics are simple but very deep It allows to express the pain of a separation And contrasts it with a very catchy melody (another ABBA characteristic)
The combination of female voices is pure beauty (my favorite passage is when Agnetha does the echoing voice of Frida's lead voice)
The official video is one of their best They constantly play with the image of the threesomes And with separations
    But there's another official video:
    ruclips.net/video/r7wdyW8VOo8/видео.html
These is TV perfomances in Polland 1976
also there's more perfomances in France 1978, Japan 1978, and live TV special "Dick Cavett meet ABBA" 1981
ABBA have a lot of masterpieces in heartbroken songs
    my Top 3 is:
    1) "S.O.S."
    2) "The winner takes it all"
    3) "My love, my life"
I continue to see each other in your reactions I hope you stay very well My best regards from Buenos Aires Argentina South América

Thank you for the additional information! I starting to find the combination of up-tempo music with melancholy lyrics to be fascinating! I look forward to my continued ABBA journey! Thanks again!

Hi Jelani! I'm in love with Abba, they are exceptional and each song is a little story...in this song the refrain is very catchy, also the male choir in the background, which they used a lot...it's hard to believe that you didn't focus on the lyrics while listening to The winner takes it all😫😫....anyway,another great song....both Agnetha and Frida have wonderful voices and they work well together but also when they play solo,I discoverd this group when they had already broken up and I was a baby....they taught me how to sing, definitely they were my teachers and I know all their songs....and they are so many!!!! Thank you for this reaction, see you on your next one😉...bye everybody

Yes I'm still disappointed that I didn't look up the lyrics for The Winner Takes It All. But as I always tell my students " I LOVE MISTAKES! Because some of our best lessons come from the errors we make!" Now with ABBA there's whole new dimension to their music that I can explore with the musical element I am already familiar with. Thanks again for the support!!

    Another special comment
Your reaction is conceptually excellent, I loved that level of analysis
I am from Argentina and our language is Spanish
When I started listening to The BEATLES in my youth (in the 70s I was in high school), my English was very poor, so my first impact was always the melody, the rhythm and the vocalizations.
and time later I discovered what his lyrics wanted to say
(In those years here in South America things took longer to arrive)
ABBA always starts to write their songs from the melody,
and only when it's finished comes the process of writing a lyric for that melody
In addition they are Swedish and they are composing (and singing) in a language and not mother tongue (that's why you have to have more understanding of them)
But they are so versatile that they came to record an entire album in Spanish, as a result of the colossal success in the Latin market of their song "Chiquitita"
The two ABBA songwriters have their main influences on the Beatles and the Beach Boys.
But they've heard all kinds of genres and backgrounds, and that weird cosmopolitan mix coupled with the melancholy of Swedish geography has made ABBA so special.
And if we add to that that they have two absolutely different and complementary female voices
Agnetha soprano shines in the treble and she is the best storyteller
Frida mezzo soprano shines in the bass and is better at singing
and together they achieve a perfect pairing, the famous Third Voice of ABBA
and if we also add the 'wall of sound' production technique we arrive at the distinctive 'ABBA sound'
As a Swedish historian put it, on the day of the World Live Launch of two new songs after almost 40 years:
"ABBA sums up all the emotions in their songs: love, heartbreak, joy and sadness, in such a way that when listening to an ABBA song you feel like singing, crying and dancing at the same time"
Yes, it's real, in ABBA all the contrasts are in their songs
Some critics who know about music have analyzed that in certain songs descending lines in the melodies are combined with ascending lines in the voices, as well as heartbreaking lyrics sung with an intense rhythm, such as the example of "The winner takes it all"
There are also many upbeat or upbeat ABBA songs, e.g. "Take a chance on me" (1978 super hit)
or the explosive "Waterloo" that gave them the consecration victory in Eurovision 1974
But surely in ABBA the fact of their famous and catchy break songs is highlighted more, perhaps because initially they were two happy couples, and with time a separation came and after two years the other
my last suggestion is, follow your sequence of two last reactions:
1980 The winner takes it all
    1977 Knowing me knowing you
go down more, to 1975: "S.O.S."
another example of these contrasts between melody and lyrics
I see in all your reactions that you choose a video of a TV perfomance That's what I give you these link of a TV special in Japan
    ruclips.net/video/AYGFPy3BnUw/видео.html
ABBA is singing and performing live these song, so you can see how amazing looks their voices blending together live too
Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for your patience and delicacy to enter the wonderful world of ABBA songs
and I hope you continue with them, in my opinion the best and most important group in the history of music (along with The BEATLES)

Thank you for those kind words! It's funny how you mentioned listening to the melody first because that's what I tend to focus on first along with the overall musical track. But now as I've started to read the lyrics of ABBA and the story they are telling there (along with their musical composition) , I'm finding the overall combination to be rather intriguing!
